Akshay Kumar starrer Kesari hit the screens on Holi. Due to the festival, the movie received a huge boost on day one. It has recorded the highest opening day of 2019. The movie has collected Rs. 21.50 crore, which is just Rs. 3 crore lesser from Akshay’s last release Gold’s opening day.
Kesari, a historical drama based on the true story of the Battle of Saragarhi fought between 21 courageous Sikhs and 10,000 invaders in the year 1897, started on a slower note in the morning. Many malls were shut due to the festival of Holi, however the film picked up huge numbers by evening. Surprisingly a report on Box Office India suggests that the movie, despite appealing to just the North Indian audiences, did well even in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
The movie collected Rs 21.50 crore on opening day, thus becoming highest opener by beating Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt’s Valentine’s Day release Gully Boy, which had opened to Rs. 19.40 crore. Akshay Kumar’s 2018 release Gold had collected Rs. 25.25 crore on Independence Day.
